Our history includes sectors we no longer operate in, and we do not regard that as a shortcoming. CHORO Group's culture is the sum of businesses entered, developed, transformed and — where necessary — exited.
Our story began in 1978 with a land investment in Istanbul by Enver Avcı, a retired teacher — his first commercial step. In 1979, with two friends, he laid the foundation of one of the tallest residential buildings in Bahçelievler; when he moved to Istanbul with his seven children in 1982, the business became a family story. Every completed building became the reference for the next, and by 1990 the Avcıoğlu name stood behind more than 25 projects, over 200 homes and more than 50 commercial units.
The nineties were the years in which trust earned in construction turned into an institutional structure. Financial consultancy services were added in 1993; in 1998, as Enver Avcı turned to politics, the flag passed to the second generation under Yalçın Avcı. That generation carried the business beyond its known boundaries: after precious stones, jewellery and retail textiles, insurance began operating in 2004.
At the end of the two-thousands the group returned to what it knew best: the construction site. In 2009 it entered the excavation sector with a fleet of 10 machines and more than 60 trucks. In 2013 we lost our founder, Enver Avcı; his teachings remained the group's compass. In 2015 the foundations of 10 urban regeneration projects were laid in western Istanbul — as the city renewed itself, Avcıoğlu renewed itself with it.
Forty years of experience came together under a single name in 2018: all activities within Avcıoğlu A.Ş. were united under the CHORO Group brand, which brought the third generation's different specialisms together like the voices of a chorus. The same year, the tourism and events investment joined the group. In 2019 the energy and engineering areas were structured, and the group's first cross-border investment, the Armutlu hydroelectric plant, began generating in Georgia.
In 2020 investments were made in advertising media and automotive after-sales; in 2022 communications activities took on a new, digitally focused structure.
The real estate business we had run in Turkey for more than forty years crossed the border for the first time in 2025: we began building an investment portfolio in North America and Europe, focused mainly on multifamily assets. In 2026 we founded a new group company that develops software and brings companies in that field into the group.
The work that began on a single construction site in 1978 now reaches across six sectors. In all those years, the one thing that has not changed is the way we look at business.
